Ahhhh, remember the good ol’ days when pro wrestling tried to etch itself into the mainstream platform by allowing their wrestlers to go “off-script” and cut shoot promos for the sake of shock value and the inevitable spike in ratings? Those were some damn good days that spawned such classics as Shawn Michaels’ “Sunny Days” comment to Bret Hart insinuating that The Hitman got some of the Tammy Sytch poon-tang. How about when Eric Bishoff would go on WCW Nitro and give away the pre-taped RAW results including Mick Foley’s first ever championship win? What about the one that started it all, when the late Brian Pillman called Kevin Sullivan “Mr. Booker-Man”? That literally changed the face of the wrestling game.
So why am I taking this trip down memory lane? Because I stumbled across a little classic that some may not remember – perhaps because by the time this occurred, WCW had been laid to rest and watching the WWE shooting on its own roster didn’t have the same effect as is it did when the shots were fired in the midst of a heated Monday Night War. By the time this little promo came about, Hulk Hogan was wearing red and yellow again, and standing in the middle of a WWE ring. The other little monkey wrench that makes this a questionable classic is probably the flubbed lines that pretty much categorizes this more as a blooper.
In this promo, Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon get it on…in a no-homo way. Then again, that too is questionable since the word “gay” slips from Hogan’s lips during the promo. He actually calls HIMSELF “gay”. Interesting. That explains alot about the mustache. Not to worry, apparently Vinnie Boy forgot he was on live TV and let the word “bullshit” fly out of his mouth. Yet, it’s the shoot-style egotistical banter over who made who that makes this video so intriguing. Hogan proclaims that he built the WWE and McMahon’s fortune, while Vinnie Mac sticks the daggers that he could have had any jabrone play the Hulk Hogan “character”. Yeah, this is so much better than 25 years of watching these two verbally jerk each other off! Can you dig it?
